Reading is My Passion

There is nothing I enjoy more than reading while on the road.  My husband swears that I am missing all of the beautiful scenery with my head in a book, but I disagree!  I look up every once in a while and admire God’s creation then resume my love of a good book. We have been on the road for 6 days and I have finished 3 books.  I don’t mind reading on my Nook, but there is something about holding a book, turning the pages, and bookmarking my place. I simply love the feel of a book in my hands.

With all of that being said, I am going to share my thoughts on the books I have read so far and hopefully you will join me on this trip through reading.

Freedom’s Light by Colleen Coble

I started with Freedom’s Light by Colleen Coble. The book is set during the Revolutionary War and follows the trials and tribulations of a young lighthouse keeper named Hannah.   Hannah loses her husband early in the story and must navigate the waters of being a widowed young woman in a man’s world. It is a Christian romance mystery that is an easy read and very captivating.

I would recommend this book for readers 16 years of age and older.

Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews

Next, I dived into Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews.  Set in Florida, it is a wonderful blend of romance, mystery, friendship, and history.  The author draws the reader in from the very beginning with several twists and plot turns that keep you engaged and wanting to read just one more chapter. She masterfully paints a picture of the beautiful beach and  blue waters that makes me want to head for Florida asap! The main character, Drue, deals with life situations that many can identify with. When an unsolved murder attracts her attention, she will stop at nothing to figure out who did it and why the coverup.

I recommend this book to all readers that enjoy a good light mystery!

Daring to Hope by Katie Davis Majors

My 3rd book of the week is Daring to Hope by Katie Davis Majors.  It is a wonderful book that shows what it looks like to lead a life of hope.  While reading this book, I couldn’t help but think of our children who have suffered losses of pregnancies and of children.  Katie reminds us that is so much easier to see God’s hand when everything is going as we planned. But, what happens when prayers aren‘t answered the way we wanted?  Walking with her every step of the way, reading her words of despair and of hope, and seeing how God uses her in such a mighty way is truly life changing. Katie uses a beautiful illustration of a storm.  While looking the other way at the beauty of the sunset, a storm was brewing right behind her. As she turned to see the storm, there in its midst was the rainbow. She states that there is beauty in the most unlikely places, but at times we must be facing the storm to see it. There is beauty to be found in a life poured out in faithfulness and obedience, no matter the circumstances.  I love the illustration because I have seen my children face storms head on and grow closer to God because of it. I wish they didn’t have to endure the trials of life, but knowing God is right beside them, makes this mama happy! This book reminds me of this truth.

I highly recommend this book to everyone who is facing a crisis of faith and is daring to hope for the future. Katie also wrote the book Kisses from Katie which I recommend also.

That’s all for now, but book number 4 is already chosen and ready to read!!
